The mobile app from Professor Sailer’s clinic analyses snoring

You can now download an app that analyses your snoring and the symptoms of sleep apnoea. It was developed by Professor Hermann F. Sailer, a leading specialist in sleep apnoea, and tested in a sleep laboratory.

What the app can do

  • Detects pauses in breathing during sleep
  • Analyses the risk of sleep apnoea with a simple traffic-light symbol (red / yellow / green)
  • Records all sleep sounds so that you can listen to them
  • Sleep results reviewed by breathing specialists
  • Based on the analysis, specialists suggest individually suitable forms of therapy

Sleep apnoea and its health risks. Pauses in breathing and their consequences

Pauses in breathing are caused by a narrowing or complete closure of the airways. During such a pause, the oxygen content of the blood drops rapidly, the heart beats harder, and blood pressure and the levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline rise. Disturbed sleep also leads to constant tiredness during the day.

Current treatments for snoring and sleep apnoea

  1. Treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea. The so-called “rotation advancement” operation permanently widens the airway by moving the upper and lower jaws forward, curing the patient completely.
  2. Symptomatic treatment, which cannot cure the condition entirely but eases the symptoms of sleep apnoea.
  3. Mouth splint. When worn, the splint moves the lower jaw forward and holds it there, thereby widening the narrowed upper airway.
  4. CPAP mask. The so-called “CPAP breathing mask” is a type of ventilation device worn during sleep. It delivers air into the lungs under positive pressure, making breathing easier.
  5. Laser and radiofrequency treatments and operations on the palate, uvula or tongue.
  6. Surgical procedures on the highly sensitive and functional soft tissues are particularly painful. Although these methods can help relieve snoring, the sleep apnoea will persist.
