Maxillofacial surgery unites two tasks that rarely rest with one person: restoring function and creating a harmonious face. Professor Hermann F. Sailer has devoted himself to both for more than half a century. In 1987 he was appointed director of the Clinic for Maxillofacial Surgery at University Hospital Zurich (USZ). From 1989 to 1994 he headed the Institute of Dentistry at the University of Zurich, from 1996 to 1998 he led the European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery, and in 2002 he founded his own clinic in Zurich.
