An early diagnosis changes the outlook
Rheumatic diseases rarely resolve on their own and almost always need long-term follow-up. They are divided into skeletal disorders (osteoporosis, osteomalacia), degenerative joint change (osteoarthritis, disc herniation), inflammatory disease (rheumatoid polyarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis) and disorders of peri-articular structures and muscle.
The treatment programme is composed of drug therapy, physiotherapy and medical training therapy, hydrotherapy, lymphatic drainage, heat and cold, occupational therapy and pain therapy, and, when needed, psychotherapeutic support.
Three formats are available: outpatient rehabilitation, inpatient recovery after surgery, and spa treatment with mineral baths. Sports-medicine programmes draw on the experience of the Swiss Olympic Medical Centre.
