Swiss medicine offers first-class solutions for almost every medical or cosmetic concern.

Medicine in Switzerland places great emphasis on post-operative rehabilitation. Swiss clinics ensure they have competent medical staff: nurses are trained to the highest level, which entitles them to prescribe and discontinue medication, work with the latest equipment and also provide psychological support.

Most people who have had COVID-19 will need rehabilitation, regardless of how severe their illness was. There is currently a large group of patients who were infected and showed no symptoms but now suffer from post-COVID conditions such as:

  • Persistent fever and chronic fatigue.
  • Changes in smell and taste, up to their complete loss.
  • Neurological disorders, including stroke, headache, dizziness, sleep disturbances, mood changes (for example depression or anxiety) and cognitive impairment (poor memory or difficulty concentrating).
  • Pathological ligament tears, joint and muscle pain.
  • Allergic reactions and skin rashes.
  • Fertility disorders.

The following types of rehabilitation are offered in Switzerland:

Cardiac rehabilitation after coronavirus:

Medical rehabilitation, in which the patient’s general condition is assessed and the type of examination and a balanced therapy programme are selected individually for each patient.

Physical rehabilitation, which includes special exercise programmes to train the cardiovascular system, such as walking, therapeutic exercise, cycling, swimming and exercise on training equipment.

Psychological rehabilitation to relieve the depression and anxiety associated with heart disease and to build mental resilience and optimism.

Neurological rehabilitation after COVID:

This requires close cooperation between general practitioners, neurologists, rehabilitation specialists and psychotherapists. The treatment programme includes:

  • diagnostics (radiology, ultrasound), laboratory tests, etc.;
  • a comprehensive specialist and clinical examination;
  • the development of an individual rehabilitation programme;
  • the therapeutic core of the programme.

Lung recovery after COVID-19 with:

Respiratory physiotherapy. Postural drainage with percussion and vibration helps keep the airways clear while the patient is placed in a specific position. In this position, mucus in the lungs is cleared more actively with the help of gravity. Other physiotherapy options are selected by the attending doctor individually for each patient.

Breathing exercises. The forced expiration technique clears mucus from the lungs more effectively than ordinary coughing. The patient breathes in normally, opens the mouth and, without much effort, breathes out a large volume of air. The exercise is similar to breathing out to fog up a mirror.

Medication. Depending on the indications, the doctor may prescribe antibiotics (for infections), corticosteroids (for inflammation), mucolytics and bronchodilators (to improve the clearance of sputum and the patency of the airways). Some patients may also need nutritional supplements.
