A pioneer of thoracic surgery in Switzerland
Techniques now regarded as the gold standard in thoracic surgery were introduced to Switzerland by Professor Walter Weder himself: the country’s first video-assisted (VATS) lobectomy in 1993 and its first robotic thymectomy in 2004. For many years he led the Department of Thoracic Surgery and the lung transplant programme at University Hospital Zurich, and he founded the Swiss Society of Thoracic Surgery. Since 2019 he has seen patients at Privatklinik Bethanien.
