Thyroid, head and neck surgery
Operations on the thyroid, larynx and salivary glands take place just millimetres from the nerves that control voice and swallowing. Professor Stefan Schmid has operated in this area for more than thirty years. From 1999 to 2006 he was director of ENT and facial surgery at University Hospital Zurich (USZ), before moving into private practice and to Privatklinik Bethanien. For many years he conducted research in the USA, collaborating with the universities of Iowa, Texas, Michigan and Pittsburgh as well as with the cancer centre in Houston.
