Hand surgery is responsible for the function of the hand as a whole — traumatic, congenital and degenerative disorders. The work is on bone, small muscles, tendons, nerves and vessels, where the count is in millimetres.
Shoulder surgery developed with diagnostic imaging: MRI and arthro-MRI, and arthroscopy became the basis of minimally invasive procedures. Anatomical and reverse shoulder prostheses are now standard practice.
A conservative path is always considered before surgery: orthoses, physiotherapy, injections and medicines often bring improvement up to full restoration of function.
