Sleep apnea and the associated health risks. Breathing interruptions and consequences
Breathing interruptions are caused by narrowing or complete closure of the airways.During such an interruption, the oxygen level in the blood quickly decreases, the heart beats faster, blood pressure and the level of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline increase. The consequences of sleep disturbance also affect the constant fatigue during the day.
Existing treatments for snoring and sleep apnea
- Treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. The so-called "Rotation Advancement Surgery" permanently widens the airways by moving the upper and lower jaws forward, completely curing the patient.
- Symptomatic treatment, which cannot cure the disease entirely, but alleviates the symptoms of sleep apnea.
- Mouthpiece. When used, the mouthpiece moves the lower jaw forward and holds it in place, thereby widening the narrowed upper airways.
- CPAP breathing mask. The so-called "CPAP breathing mask", a type of ventilation device that is worn during sleep. During this time, it compresses air into the lungs at positive pressure, thereby making breathing easier.
- Laser and radiofrequency applications and operations on the palate, tongue, or tongue
- Surgical interventions on highly sensitive and functional soft tissues are particularly painful. Although these methods can help relieve snoring, sleep apnea will persist.
