About the clinic
More than 100 years on a hill above Lake Lugano
The story of Clinica Sant’Anna began in 1922, when nuns of the Congregation of the Sisters of St Anne of Lucerne, devoted to the care of mothers and children, founded the clinic in Lugano. In 1934 it moved to the hill of Sorengo, where it stands today. Over the past century it has grown from a maternity home into a multidisciplinary medical centre while keeping its original dedication to mother and child — which is why it is known as the “cradle of Ticino”.
Today Clinica Sant’Anna brings together women’s health — gynaecology, obstetrics and a breast centre — with large departments of general and plastic surgery, oncology, internal medicine and diagnostic radiology. It has 5 fully equipped operating theatres for outpatient and inpatient surgery and is a member of the international Mayo Clinic Care Network.
